Wendy Critchlow

State Representative for Chittenden 19

For Our Future

About Wendy

My name is Wendy Critchlow, and I am running for State Representative of Chittenden District 19.

For the past 37 years, the beautiful town of Colchester has been my home. During this time, I have developed a strong, deeply rooted community within Colchester. My husband and I raised three beautiful children here, I have been part of the Colchester Democrats since 1992, I've participated in our local public-school systems, and am a proud union member. I currently serve our community as a member of Colchester's Planning Commission, a Justice of the Peace, and a Steward at Vermont State Employees Association. I am seeking election for the first time as Colchester's State Representative because I feel deeply passionate about our great town and its future.

My Platform

Public Education

Public School and the educational resources they provide are a critical element of our community. The potential privatization of education in Colchester and throughout Vermont is not something to be taken lightly.

  • Charter schools and private education cost taxpayers significantly, while few members of the community directly benefit

  • Public Schools provide vital, accessible support and education to our children

  • Crucial aspects of our educational system are upheld through the Department of Education in our public-school systems, including proper government support, non-discriminatory practices, and equitable opportunity for future generations.

Climate Change

The impacts of climate change can be felt not only locally, but across the globe. It is crucial for us to begin thinking forward and acting now to combat it's effects.

  • Future policies should incorporate climate change mitigation tactics to ensure our future generations can call Colchester their home.

  • Protecting Lake Champlain from the effects of climate change, including recent flooding, needs to be addressed for the benefit of our community and continued tourism incomes

  • Alternative sources of energy should be more accessible and affordable for the public

  • Renewable energy sources should be explored, and their benefits reaped by our local communities.

Affordable Housing for All

Many Vermonters, including Colchester residents, are facing an up-hill battle finding affordable housing locally, leading younger generations to leave the state. Focusing on empowering first-time homebuyers and creating affordable housing for all through revised zoning laws and policies is a crucial step to securing a future for Colchester.

  • Local governments should reconsider outdated zoning policies and reform them based on today's market needs

  • Crafting future policies that create equitable distribution of luxury, market rate, and workforce housing is critical to keeping future generations in state

  • Planning of new zoning should consider how to increase housing units while minimizing negative impacts on our town and city hubs
